"Village Voice" nur noch online

Die traditionsreiche New Yorker Wochenzeitung Village Voice ist zum letzten Mal in gedruckter Form erschienen. Mit der letzten September-Ausgabe des Jahres 2017 stellt das 1955 von Schriftsteller Norman Mailer mitgegründete Blatt sein Erscheinen auf Papier ein und wird aussschließlich online publiziert. Für die Zeitschrift hatten viele bekannte Schriftsteller geschrieben, unter anderem Ezra Pound, Henry Miller, Katherine Anne Porter, James Baldwin, Tom Stoppard, Lorraine Hansberry, Allen Ginsberg und Michael Musto. 1976 veröffentlichte die New Yorker Wochenzeitung Fritz Langs letztes Interview. Village Voice hatte zuletzt angekündigt, die Marke solle auf diese Weise "revitalisiert" und "neu erdacht" werden. Das Wochenblatt setzte vor allem auf Politik und Kultur und wurde für seinen Investigativjournalismus dreimal mit dem Pulitzer-Preis ausgezeichnet. Nach jahrzehntelangem Wettbewerbsdruck war The Village Voice seit 1996 kostenlos; die Online-Version ist ebenfalls kostenfrei zugänglich. Sie gehört zu den auflagenstärksten Wochenzeitungen und einflussreichsten amerikanischen Organen.
