The Importance Of Zora
Zora Neale Hurston is a person you probably know a little about. You’ve
heard her name before, of course — it gets mentioned during interviews
on NPR with authors who gush about how Hurston’s work as a novelist,
folklorist, and anthropologist inspired them. You vaguely recall a
friend talking about the Oprah produced, Halle Berry-starring 2005
television adaption of Hurston’s seminal novel "Their Eyes Were Watching
God"… but 2005 was also the only year you managed to stick to your new
year’s resolution to not watch TV. You kind of remember another friend
taking a pilgrimage to Eatonville, Florida — Hurston's hometown — and,
in response, proclaiming your love for Zora Neale Hurston, while not
totally remembering what she wrote and secretly wondering if Eatonville
